arena_inside.JPGPula, being the largest city in the province of Istria (Istra) with a population of about 62.000, is situated in a large outstretching peninsula at the Adriatic sea coast, on seven hills, just like Rome. It's very mild Mediterranean climate also boasts having the cleanest sea water at its beaches and having large totally pristine nature landscapes, attaining it to be an increasing popular summer vacation destination with very hospitable and most comfortable holiday accommodations.
 
Pula is well known for its well established tradition of shipbuilding, fishing, food processing industry, winemaking and tourism. The city of Pula is 3000 years old, so it is also a town of profound culture and is known for its many ancient Roman monuments, the most famous of which is the Arena, the sixth largest preserved Amphiteatre in the world. It is very much in use today during summer pop and jazz concerts, operas, and the well known Pula film festival.

The centre of Pula has ancient quarters of narrow streets with Roman paving stones, alined with Medieval and Renaissance buildings. Renting attractive rooms and apartments are widely available here. As a result of its rich political history, Pula has a cultural mixture of people and languages from the Mediterranean and Central Europe, both ancient and contemporary. Residents of Pula are commonly fluent in foreign languages, especially Italian, also German and English. The world renowned writer James Joyce taught at the famous Berlitz School. The well known Italian actress Alida Valli was born in Pula.
 
The Pula Airport is situated north-east of Pula, and serves both domestic and international destinations, similar to the nearby situated Rijeka Airport on the island of Krk. International airports in close vicinity include Trieste in Italy, in Zagreb being the capital of Croatia and in Ljubljana being the captial of Slovenia. Ample bus connections and train services complete easy transportation to and from Pula.
